A Faithful Way Forward

Scripture

Hebrews 11:22 NIV

22 By faith Joseph, when his end was near, spoke about the exodus of the Israelites from Egypt and gave instructions concerning the burial of his bones.

Main Idea

Our highest aim is to glorify God. It’s why we gather. It’s why we worship. It’s why we serve. It’s why we give. Hebrews 11 tells us that one of the chief ways we glorify God is with our faith.

Remembering God's Word will keep your citizenship in the right place.

Discussion Questions

  1. Has there been a time when you felt out of place or wrong for allowing your faith to show up in your politics? Discuss.
  2. Discuss with the group a time when you had trouble deciding what was right and wrong. How did you eventually decide, and what were the consequences, good or bad?
  3. Talk about. time when you allowed your faith to be an internal experience, rather than allowing it to influence the world around you (spoiler alert, we have all struggled with this at some point).

Summary

Forward progress come from faithful preservation. We are called to be the salt of the earth, to slow the societal decay that is happening in our world, and preserve what is right, and good, and holy, through our Christian witness. We don’t do that by burning things to the ground. We do it holding onto old virtues and carrying them back into the light.
