Ps. Justin Jenkins, Marissa Jenkins, and Dan Ohlerking

The Intersection of Connection

Scripture

Phillipians 1:3-6 GW

3I thank my God for all the memories I have of you. 4Every time I pray for all of you, I do it with joy. 5I can do this because of the partnership we’ve had with you in the Good News from the first day you believed until now. 6I’m convinced that God, who began this good work in you, will carry it through to completion on the day of Christ Jesus.

Main Idea

Friendships are formed, not found. In this special sermon, Pastors Justin and Marissa Jenkins speak with Dan Ohlerking of Children’s Cup. Together, the three model how sharing and speaking with other believers can form the bonds of friendship and strengthen connections. Because sometimes, a demonstration is more powerful than an explanation.

"The intersection of connection is the cross. That’s why we gather—it’s for Jesus."

Discussion Questions

  1. In this week’s message we learned three ways that sharing helps us form friendships. What are these three types of sharing, and what do they mean to you?
  2. Is there a time when sharing a struggle helped you connect with someone else? How did that make you feel?
  3. Think of a friendship you have where you feel a strong sense of connection. What do you feel makes this friendship particularly strong?

Summary

  1. Share your story—share who you are. When you share who you are, it gives you the opportunity to begin forming connections.
  2. Share your struggle—share where you’re at. It’s good to get real. Be honest about what’s happening in your life. (See 2 Corinthians 8:1-4 MSG)
  3. Share your strength—share what you have. Dan has shifted Children’s Cup to be less about “sponsorship” and more about “friendship.” This way, no one gets left out. Connection brings hope. We win together. Even a small act makes a big impact and has a big reward. “Whoever helps any of these little ones because they are my followers will definitely get a reward, even if they only give them a cup of cold water.” (Matthew 10:42 ERV)
