Running Out, Running Over, and Running After

Scripture

Psalm 23:4-6 NIV

4 Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. 5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. 6 Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

Main Idea

In our daily lives, it might feel like we continually run out of resources. But God wants us to run over with His blessings. If we trust and walk with God, Psalm 23 promises His goodness will run after us.

God will not remove valleys in your life, but He will walk through it with you step by step.

Discussion Questions

  1. What are some things in your life that you feel that you constantly run out of?
  2. How have you experienced your cup overflow with God's blessings?
  3. How has tithing impacted your life?
  4. What are some ways that you can demonstrate trust in God?

Summary

God wants to walk with us through our daily lives. It does not mean there will never be difficulties. Often, we might run out of worldly things. We might not feel we have enough time, energy, or money. But, we are to trust God through this. He will provide his protection, presence, and provision if we trust Him. God wants your cup to run over with blessings. But with the extra God gives, we are expected to give back to Him. Giving back to God through your local church helps to provide for others. One way to do this is tithing. When you tithe, you give back to God your first and your best. Tithing is a tangible way to display your trust in God. Psalm 23:6 says, "Surely your goodness and love will follow me." If you take a step to trust God, surely He will run after you. He will shower you with blessings. But God will only move at your speed. Take a step in faith and trust, and experience how God will cause your cup to run over.
