A Life of Worship

Scripture

Romans 12:1-2 NIV

1 Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. 2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

Main Idea

Worship happens whenever we ascribe worth or value to something. That means all of us worship something, even if it's not God. As Christians our worship should be a heartfelt response to God's love, not just an obligation. So what does it look like? It involves our time, talent and treasure. It's not just what happens on Sunday in a church service, but worship should permeate every part of who we are.

Feelings are fleeting but God is always good.

Discussion Questions

  1. In Romans 12:1-2, Paul is encouraging us to see ourselves as not only worshiping, but also to be living out worship. What are the ways you are tempted to most "conform to the pattern of this world?"
  2. In 2 Samuel 24:24, David insists that he pay for the land that he will use as a sacrifice. This shows that worship comes at a cost, including your time, talent, and treasure. Has there been a moment where you saw this in your life?
  3. Pastor TJ spoke about the temptation to have a different Sunday version of yourself compared to a Tuesday version of yourself. What are practical ways you can align the two?

Summary

Internal fulfillment comes from worship, not from extrinsic factors. There will be moments in life when our feelings will make us discouraged, hopeless, or defeated. But God is transforming us by His grace and power. Rather than respond to the feelings in our life, we can express worship to God.
